Zohran Mamdani enters streamer era with live Twitch series “Talk with the People”

Zohran Mamdani is starting a brand-new livestream show on Twitch called “Talk with the People.” The first stream will happen on May 21 at 4 PM ET. During the livestream, Mamdani will answer questions from viewers live while talking about city issues and daily life in New York City. The stream will also be shown on YouTube, TikTok, Instagram, Facebook, X, and Bluesky, but Twitch will be the main place where people can chat with him directly.Mamdani became popular online before becoming mayor because he often used social media videos to speak with young people. Now, he wants to continue doing the same thing while working at City Hall. In a statement shared with Polygon, Mamdani said he wants younger generations to feel more connected to their government. He explained that many young people spend time online, so he wants to meet them where they already are instead of only using traditional news or TV interviews.

Mamdani said the new series is about making the government feel easier to reach and understand. He called the stream the country’s first recurring cross-platform livestream hosted by an elected official. According to him, the goal is to create a direct conversation between the government and the people, especially younger viewers who often feel ignored in politics. The name “Talk with the People” is also inspired by former New York City Mayor Fiorello La Guardia. Back in the 1940s, La Guardia had a radio show called “Talk to the People,” where he spoke directly to citizens using radio, which was very modern at the time. Mamdani is now trying to do something similar using livestreams and social media.Soon after the announcement, Mamdani’s official Twitch channel started gaining attention quickly. Mamdani has also shown interest in online communities and gaming culture recently. He even congratulated a girls’ elementary school team that won the 2026 Mayor’s Cup Battle of the Boroughs Minecraft Tournament. With his new Twitch series about to begin, many people are now curious to see how a mayor will handle life as a livestream streamer.
