US team to visit India from June 1-4 for trade talks, interim pact discussions to continue

A US delegation will visit India from June 1-4 for trade negotiations with both sides expected to continue discussions on a proposed interim agreement as well as the broader bilateral trade pact, PTI reported citing a government official.“To carry forward the discussions, the US team led by the Chief Negotiator will be visiting India from June 1-4, 2026. It is proposed to finalise the details of the interim agreement and take forward the negotiations under the broader BTA on multiple areas such as market access, non-tariff measures, customs and trade facilitation, investment promotion, economic security alignment,” the official said, as quoted PTI.According to the official, India and the US are proposed to finalise details of the interim trade pact during the upcoming round of talks while also taking forward negotiations under the larger bilateral trade agreement framework. The talks will also seek to advance negotiations under the broader India-US bilateral trade agreement (BTA) across areas including market access, non-tariff measures, customs and trade facilitation, investment promotion and economic security alignment. India and the US had issued a joint statement on February 7 agreeing on a framework for an interim trade agreement focused on reciprocal and mutually beneficial trade. The framework had also reaffirmed the two countries’ commitment to negotiations under the wider BTA. Following that, an Indian delegation visited Washington DC from April 20-23, 2026, for in-person meetings with US counterparts.
