CBSE marks verification guide: What students should know about rechecking and correction process

NEW DELHI: The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has opened the post-result process for Class XII students seeking access to evaluated answer sheets, verification of marks or re-evaluation after the declaration of board examination results earlier this month. The process assumes significance this year after CBSE acknowledged the possibility of evaluation errors during the checking of nearly 1.25 crore answer scripts. The board had declared the Class XII results with an overall pass percentage of 85.20%, lower than last year’s 88.39%.Step 1: Apply for evaluated answer sheet copiesStudents who wish to review their marks must first obtain copies of their evaluated answer scripts through the official CBSE portal. The application window for obtaining evaluated answer sheets remains open from May 19 to May 22. Students can log in using their board examination credentials and select the subjects for which they want copies of answer books.CBSE has clarified that students must complete this stage before proceeding to verification or re-evaluation requests.Step 2: Review answer sheets carefullyAfter receiving the evaluated answer sheets, students should carefully examine all pages, totals, unchecked answers and awarded marks.Students are expected to identify discrepancies, if any, before applying for further correction. CBSE has stated that the process is intended to improve transparency and allow students to review evaluation details independently.Earlier, CBSE Controller of Examinations Sanyam Bhardwaj said the board evaluates around 1.25 crore answer scripts annually.“We evaluate approximately 1.25 crore answer scripts; there is a possibility that an error may occur somewhere,” Bhardwaj said in an interview to ANI.Step 3: Apply for verification or re-evaluationStudents identifying discrepancies may apply for verification, discrepancy reporting or re-evaluation from May 26 to May 29.According to CBSE, a panel of experts will examine the reported concerns. If any evaluation error is confirmed, corrections will be made accordingly. The board has also clarified that revised scores may either increase or decrease depending on the outcome of verification.“It is imperative to clarify here that if the correction of an error results in a lower score, the student’s marks will be reduced accordingly,” Bhardwaj had said. What students should keep in mindCBSE has advised students to apply only after carefully reviewing their answer sheets. Students should also keep copies of submitted applications and payment receipts for future reference during the verification process.
